Actually i'm not sure of what type of CPU it is using, this is more of general question, just cause i know that star choice also uses motorola on general instrument recievers. Does anyone know if star choice actually caries a reciever that this usb-bdm can be used on?

Bevu01, yes the Starchoice receiver does have a BDM interface. It is based on the MC68331 proc. I do not have the pin outs for the interface handy but I am sure this tool will work as BDM is a standard like JTAG. For the record though no sub information is in the flash, there is a ASIC on the board that contains the sub and subscriber (Boxid) that communicates with the MC68331 over a serial bus. I believe the bus is encrypted. This is hear say though as I have only read this and have yet to connect a BDM myself. m.

I'm working on understanding star choice too
I have a 305 receiver and a bdm that connect to the printer port I could talk a little to the receiver with a software made for european Nokia D-Box receiver that's about it , not much I can do so far I will probably buy a usb bdm interface if they are a few more for sale
here's what I know the newer receivers are versions of motorola 4dtv line-up with modified software for star choice cpu is the motorola 68331 flash ram is the intel 2 megs 28f160 bdm interface inside on the 305, 315 and 401 encoding is digicypher II
