ok guys i might be wrong but heres a tip:
if u want to buy a box buy a 2244\1661+ 2224\1661+
if u buy from your city thats the best from ebay if u do that ask them before u bid or you buy it this questions: 1.were have u used the box in what city , or do you know were that box was used? 2. up to what channels does it go to when u power up ?
this way u can go to tvguide.com or any other listings and under tv listings and punch in the zip code of that city and see what is the channel aragement and up to what channel does it go to if it matches it might work in your area. if u dont know how to find the zip code go to msn\maps directions and find out

Good post. I guess the price of 1661 on ebay might go up a little.

good post, but i would be more concerned about getting a box that has no errors and works fine. Pretty much every cable company has a diffenet channel line up and uses differnet billing software. For instance the old cable company from my area, gave us the option to change many box settings from the user end. Now (the current cable company) the boxes are sent out as blanks and when it is authorized in the customers home the box automatically configures itself for the area it is installed. Time zone, channnel line up, what QAM's are available etc.
But from what i have read here the 2***\1661 boxes seem to be easier to work with.

not only that if u want premiums u must search for a box used close to your area and had same company
if that box even if wrong area if he had HBO and showtime u can get them......clone the nvram from your area to the new box and u get HBO and showtime
but must have stored info aobut premiums and other digitals that are not CLR as long it has them and from same company then u can clone nvram and get the box to work fine if diferent company 100% u get only analog and maibe music channels or some other free digitals no premiums

2244\1661+ 2224\1661+ is the best? What like letters are the best, ABCDE...etc? Thanks. not to be rude but, you already asked this in a differnet thread. and adrianbv6 already answer it at the start of this one.

Thanks USBDM. As I am a newbie here I try to read alot. I was reading the thread on 1161. usbbdm.proboards44.com/index.cgi?board=Project&action=display&thread=1113098194From what I got out of it was that the watch dog capasiter has to be disable, and the "write and erase" command has to be seperate. Hence causing several extra steps. Please elaborate more on the offsets/disadvantages of the PH6 for use newbies. Thanks USBBDM Cheers, XTC

PH6 and earlier boad has a DIP flash. 29LV800 (or somthing). Segment $000000 - $7ffff
When box powers on, it boot from this chip. Then check the NVRAM and decide if it need to boot from TSOP (400000- 5fffff). A lot of time when you play with the NVRAM, you end up using the DIP firmware even though you have upgraded the new firmware on TSOP chip. PH7/8 are better to be tested.

trust me, try to get a ph7/8. i have 3 non ph board boxes and they have a temper or something. ;D with the newer versions of the bdm software 0.42 and above you don't need to do the erase and write seperatly.
