I went through ALL the posts and found nothing on this. I have Comcast analog basic cable for $8/month (20 nutsty channels). I "borrowed" my mothers DCT2244 today and plugged it in at my house. I got what I guess are all the basic digital channels plus extras. Most channels just came right up while a few others started off with "not authorized" and then came up. Premium channels didn't work at all. Is comcast going to know that I used this box? What info did it send? Am I in trouble?
Now the most important question can I take my mothers box and "clone" it with the BDM cable? Do I need to use the exact same box with the exact same board? Do I have to subsrcibe to basic digital cable to avoid detection or can I keep the analog line? If my mother subcribes to primium channels will they work on the clone?

if you clone a box you won't get the premiums anyways. you can use the bdm software to make dct connected. you 'll get any digital channels that are open in your area (CLR). all digital cable comes in on an analog line. it's riding on carriers called QAM's. if you are going to use a dct i suggest disabling the reverse. a couple of ways to do this, and there a pictures and lost of info about that already here.

so what about having connected my mothers box? What got sent? Am I in trouble? or my mom? Would cloning her box be the way to go?

if you didn't order ppv or any ondemand type service probably nothing. usually the dac polls the boxes once a day or so. if your cable company has it set up that if a box responds from the wrong node then they can shut it off. most companies don't do this. so, no i doubt your in trouble.

In one instance, a person w/ a premium sports package brought his DCT over to a friend's house across town, so they could watch a major game on a big screen TV the friend owned. All the channels came in, but, because they were on a different node, they received local access channels specifically meant for that part of town. Anyway, they enjoyed a great game.
